PROJECT OVERVIEW

Wastewater treatment designed around stringent discharge requirements

Kasomeno Border required a reliable wastewater treatment solution capable of treating wastewater to stringent discharge requirements before environmental release.

SewTreat proposed a 115 KLPD steel-tank wastewater treatment plant using Integrated Fixed-Film Activated Sludge (IFAS) as the core biological treatment process, followed by AFM and GAC filtration for additional effluent polishing.

THE CHALLENGE

Treated effluent needed to meet stringent discharge limits

The Kasomeno Border operation required wastewater to be treated to a final quality suitable for discharge into the Luapula River.

The project requirements specified compliance with DWA Special Limits and Regulation 7(2), creating a need for reliable biological treatment together with additional effluent polishing.

SEWTREAT’S SOLUTION

A 115 KLPD steel-tank wastewater treatment plant

SewTreat proposed a 115 KLPD steel-tank wastewater treatment plant designed to achieve the required final-effluent quality.

Integrated Fixed-Film Activated Sludge (IFAS) forms the core biological treatment process. Following biological treatment, AFM and GAC filtration provide additional polishing of the treated effluent, supporting achievement of the required discharge limits.

TREATMENT PROCESS

How the Kasomeno wastewater treatment solution works

The treatment train combines biological treatment with two filtration stages before environmental discharge.

01

IFAS Biological Treatment

Integrated Fixed-Film Activated Sludge provides the core biological wastewater treatment process.

02

AFM Filtration

AFM filtration provides an additional polishing stage following biological treatment.

03

GAC Filtration

Granular Activated Carbon filtration further polishes the treated effluent to support the required final quality.

04

Environmental Discharge

The final treated effluent is intended for responsible discharge into the Luapula River.

PLANT BENEFITS

Reliable treatment with biological and filtration technologies

The Kasomeno Border solution combines a dedicated steel-tank plant with IFAS biological treatment and downstream filtration.

01

Discharge-Focused Design

Designed around the project’s specified DWA Special Limits and Regulation 7(2) requirements.

02

Reliable Wastewater Treatment

Provides a dedicated 115 KLPD wastewater treatment solution for the Kasomeno Border operation.

03

Advanced IFAS Treatment

Uses Integrated Fixed-Film Activated Sludge as the core biological treatment process.

04

AFM + GAC Polishing

Two filtration stages provide additional polishing of the biologically treated effluent.

05

Responsible Environmental Discharge

Supports discharge of treated effluent into the Luapula River in line with the specified project requirements.
