PROJECT OVERVIEW

Advanced membrane treatment for high-quality hospital water

King Salman Specialized Hospital required an advanced water treatment system capable of producing high-quality water from pre-filtered feedwater.

The project called for a compact 10 m³/h Reverse Osmosis plant with measures to protect the RO membranes from scale formation and residual chlorine while supporting reliable long-term membrane performance.

This project forms Part 2 of the King Salman water-treatment scope. See Part 1 in the King Salman Specialized Hospital borehole water treatment case study.

THE CHALLENGE

Protecting RO membranes while producing high-quality permeate

The hospital required an advanced treatment stage capable of treating pre-filtered feedwater and producing high-quality water for process or potable applications.

The system also needed to protect the RO membranes from scale formation and residual chlorine, both of which could compromise reliable long-term membrane performance.

Produce high-quality permeate from pre-filtered water
Control scale formation before membrane separation
Neutralise residual chlorine before the RO membranes
Support reliable long-term membrane performance

SEWTREAT’S SOLUTION

A 10 m³/h Reverse Osmosis plant

SewTreat proposed a 10 m³/h skid-mounted reverse osmosis plant designed to treat pre-filtered water and produce high-quality permeate suitable for process or potable use. The plant was designed to fit within the client’s existing control room.

Before membrane separation, antiscalant dosing inhibits scale formation from sparingly soluble salts, particularly calcium and magnesium compounds. Sodium metabisulphite (SMBS) is also injected to neutralise residual chlorine before the water reaches the RO membranes, helping to protect them and support long-term performance.

Treatment Process

How the King Salman RO treatment process works

The documented treatment sequence protects the membranes before Reverse Osmosis produces high-quality permeate.

01

Pre-filtered Feedwater

The plant receives pre-filtered water as feed to the advanced RO treatment stage.

02

Antiscalant Dosing

Antiscalant is used to inhibit scale formation from sparingly soluble salts, particularly calcium and magnesium compounds.

03

SMBS Dosing

Sodium metabisulphite neutralises residual chlorine before the feedwater reaches the RO membranes.

04

Reverse Osmosis

RO membrane separation produces high-quality permeate suitable for the documented process or potable applications.

PLANT BENEFITS

Compact RO treatment with dedicated membrane protection

The King Salman solution support reliable RO membrane performance.

01

10 m³/h RO Production

Provides 10 m³/h of high-quality RO permeate production.

02

Scale Control

Antiscalant dosing is used to control scale formation before membrane separation.

03

Residual Chlorine Control

SMBS dosing neutralises residual chlorine and provides additional membrane protection.

04

Flexible Final Application

The high-quality permeate is suitable for process or potable water applications.
