PROJECT OVERVIEW
Recovering wastewater as a potable water resource for a growing development
Terranova required a sustainable potable water solution for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the development. Existing boreholes could not provide the required demand, while the council supply was unreliable.
SewTreat proposed a 600 KLPD wastewater-to-potable water treatment plant that recovers wastewater as a potable water resource for the development.

THE CHALLENGE
Potable water demand exceeded the available borehole supply
Terranova required a sustainable potable water solution for its growing residential development. The existing boreholes could not meet demand, and council supply was unreliable.
SewTreat converted wastewater into a reliable source of potable water, with capacity to support both Phase 1 and Phase 2. This also gave the client an opportunity to reduce water costs and supply the development’s 600 homes with water at a lower rate than council tariffs.

SEWTREAT’S SOLUTION
A 600 KLPD wastewater-to-potable treatment plant
SewTreat proposed a 600 KLPD wastewater-to-potable water treatment plant serving Phase 1 and Phase 2.
The process combines IFAS, AFM filtration, GAC filtration, Reverse Osmosis and remineralisation. IFAS provides biological treatment, AFM and GAC provide filtration and polishing, and RO provides advanced membrane treatment for high-quality potable reuse.
The approach creates a circular water system in which wastewater is recovered as a valuable potable resource.
TREATMENT PROCESS
How the Terranova wastewater-to-potable treatment process works
01
IFAS
Provides the biological treatment stage.
02
AFM Filtration
Provides filtration following biological treatment.
03
GAC Filtration
Provides an additional filtration and polishing stage.
04
Reverse Osmosis
Provides advanced membrane treatment for high-quality potable reuse.
05
Remineralisation
Forms part of the treatment process specified for Terranova.
