Borehole Water Treatment for The Grange Residential Development

A multi-stage borehole water treatment project in Harare, Zimbabwe, designed to provide a reliable potable water supply.

LOCATION

Harare, Zimbabwe

INDUSTRY

Residential Development

PLANT CAPACITY

1 × 270 KLPD + 2 × 180 KLPD

FINAL WATER USE

Potable Water

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Creating a dependable potable water source from borehole water

The Grange residential development required a reliable and sustainable potable water supply. Borehole water was available as a key source, but the raw water presented quality concerns that needed to be addressed before potable use.

SewTreat proposed a comprehensive borehole water treatment solution using oxidation, AFM filtration, GAC filtration and final disinfection to address the identified water quality concerns and provide a reliable source of treated potable water.

THE CHALLENGE

Raw borehole water required treatment before potable use

The Grange residential development required a reliable and sustainable potable water supply. Borehole water was available as a key source, but the raw water presented quality concerns that needed to be addressed before potable use.

The primary treatment concerns identified were:

Manganese
Total suspended solids (TSS)
Turbidity
Coliforms and bacteria

These are the specific issues SewTreat supplied for this project.

SEWTREAT’S SOLUTION

A multi-stage borehole water treatment solution

SewTreat proposed three borehole water treatment plants for The Grange: one 270 KLPD treatment plant and two 180 KLPD treatment plants.

The treatment solution incorporates oxidation, AFM filtration, GAC filtration and final disinfection. Together, these treatment stages address the key water-quality concerns identified in the borehole water and provide a reliable source of treated potable water.

TREATMENT PROCESS

How the borehole water treatment process works

Four treatment stages work together to address the key water-quality concerns identified in the raw borehole water.

01

Oxidation

Assists in addressing manganese present in the raw borehole water.

02

AFM Filtration

Removes suspended solids and reduces turbidity, improving the physical quality and clarity of the water.

03

GAC Filtration

Provides an additional treatment stage to improve the colour and taste of the treated water.

04

Final Disinfection

Addresses microbiological contaminants such as coliforms and bacteria before the water is supplied for potable use.

PLANT BENEFITS

A reliable and sustainable potable water supply

The treatment solution provides The Grange with a dependable potable water source while addressing the key physical and microbiological water-quality concerns.

01

Reliable Potable Water Supply

Provides a dependable source of treated potable water for the residential development.

02

Targeted Water Treatment

Addresses manganese, total suspended solids and turbidity identified in the raw borehole water.

03

Microbiological Control

Final disinfection addresses coliforms and bacteria before potable use.

04

Consistent Water Quality

Multiple treatment stages work together to support consistent treated-water quality.

05

Sustainable Borehole Use

Allows the development to make effective use of its available borehole water resource.
