SewTreat Commissions 30 KLPD Wastewater Treatment Plant for Gateway Lodge, South Africa

SewTreat, a leader in modular water and wastewater treatment solutions, has successfully commissioned a 30,000 litres per day wastewater treatment plant at Gateway Lodge in Polokwane, South Africa. This project highlights the increasing adoption of decentralized wastewater treatment technologies in hospitality and eco-tourism.

The new plant is designed to treat the lodge’s wastewater to General Discharge Standards set by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS). The treated water is repurposed primarily for landscape irrigation and safe discharge.

A Scalable, Turnkey Solution

SewTreat provided a complete design-and-build package, delivering a prefabricated plant featuring:

  • Above-ground steel tank configuration to minimize footprint and civil works.
  • Integrated biological treatment (IFAS process) with aerobic and anoxic stages for robust purification.
  • Multi-stage screening and disinfection, ensuring compliance with strict environmental standards.
  • GSM-enabled control panel for remote monitoring and optimized plant management.

The solution includes full commissioning, operator training, and optional operations and maintenance support, allowing the client to focus on hospitality operations while benefiting from expert system oversight.

Environmental and Economic Impact

This installation underscores SewTreat’s commitment to sustainable development:

  • Transforms lodge wastewater into a safe irrigation resource, complying to DWS General Discharge standards.
  • Reduces energy and operational costs through an efficient compact packaged aboveground design with low energy consumption and minimal maintenance requirements.
  • Supports eco-conscious tourism by safeguarding local ecosystems from untreated effluent.

With over 250 installations across 15 African countries, SewTreat continues to deliver cost-effective, environmentally responsible water management solutions that address water scarcity and infrastructure gaps in remote and semi-urban locations.
